I could do with some advice please.
I live in the UK and own a CKD 1971 Land Rover 2a. I was imported back to the UK in 1981 and given an incorrect registration number (making it look as though it was new in 1981).
If I can find a copy of the old South African vehicle documentation I can get the UK authorities to swap my '81 registration for a '71 version.
Can anyone point me in the direction of where I might be able to find such South African paperwork, I have the original registration number or am I being foolish in expecting to find such a document now?
Many thanks,

Re: South African vehicle document archives
Surely Land Rover (UK or SA ) will have some record of this vehicle and its date of manufacture and sale ?

Re: South African vehicle document archives
Nope, as it's a CKD vehicle no records are kept. After a bit more digging I found out that it was registered in Zimbabwe from 1974 until it was exported back. All I need to do it prove it was registered in SA/Zimbabwe.
It's registration was '273 910 C', by the way.

Re: South African vehicle document archives
Would a build certificate from JLA South Africa be of any use?
Re: South African vehicle document archives
ANYTHING would be really helpful.

They actually know squat about Series vehicles at that office bar one old guy, so do not give too much detail about why you need it. Just ask for a Build Certificate for that chassis number, for registration purposes in UK, then forget that you asked and get on with life. If you do get a response...then its a bonus.
Good luck

Unfortunately no records were kept from the Leyland or Leykor days and, to be honest, LRSA is not really interested to help.
I also tried all kinds of routes to get the history of my previous SIIa but without any luck.

LR SA couldn't help me either, they were helpful but didn't hold the info.
