engine oil Disco 3 TDV6SE 2005
I wish to do an engine oil change. I have recently bought the vehicle and I am assuming the current engine oil is standard mineral oil. I wish to drain and fill with a synthetic oil. Are there are danger s of incompatibility? If I run the engine hot and allow sufficient drain time, is this still a threat?

In my opinion there is no compatibility problem ...I wish to do an engine oil change. I have recently bought the vehicle and I am assuming the current engine oil is standard mineral oil. What do others think ?

Re: engine oil Disco 3 TDV6SE 2005
Agreed. Contrary to popular opinion there are no compatibility issues with synthetic and regular mineral oils. The only difference is that synthetic oil is "processed" to have an extra chemical bond in the molecule making it stronger and less likely to break under pressure allowing for thinner films which allows tighter tolerances in the engine parts. Unless you're driving a very high performance car (Ferrari or similar) which require synthetic you would not see the benefit of the higher cost of the oil.
