Disco 2 for day to day

Postby Westi » 02 Feb 2014 17:53

hi guys,

I have been giving a lot of thought to selling my 2012 Ford Focus and getting a Disco 2 to use day to day instead.

Reasoning:

1. I love to luxury of the Disco 2
2. I am tred of my Ford and its rapid depreciation.
3. Currently spending R4k on the ford, R1k on insurance and R2k for fuel.
4. If i can get a paid off Disco 2 then i am already saving R4k pm.
5. I love the brand. I have a Defender 90 already.

Im keen on a 2.5 TD5 Disco 2

What I would like to know is the following:

1. I found a good deal for a vehicle with 280000 on the clock, is this a major problem i.t.o reliability?
2. Service costs
3. What sort of fuel economy can i expect?
4. Are there any stand out concerns on the 2002 TD5 engine?
5. Is the automatic a good choice.

Thanks for your help guys.

Whatever you save on the Ford, you will be spending on maintaining the D2.

IMHO, if you want to get rid of the Focus, then get a small diesel hatchback to run around.

Nonsense. This is misleading advice. If you find a good D2 that has been well maintained and has been checked out by a reputable concern, you should not be spending that amount to keep it on the road. There are some good buys out there, but buy wisely and get someone to look at it before you buy it.
