Disco II Powersteering

Postby JohanvanB » 11 Mar 2010 10:09

Hi all. I'm the proud owner of a 2003 Disco II Tdi5. Except for the grey hairs the Disco is actualy a very nice vechicle.
My Disco sprung a leak on the powersteering pump last week (Leaked the whole resevoir overnight) and I need to tackle the repairs as a DIY project. Any tips or suggestions on this will be most welcome.

Hi JohanvanB.
It's most likely the pipe from the reservoir to the pump that is leaking. It has a rubber pipe joint onto a U-shaped alu pipe with a bracket bolted to the sump. It chaffhes through under the bracket. Replace with a suitable lenght oil resistant pipe straight to the pump. It is a low pressure pipe.
Regards.
Marius.

G/Morning everybody.
I spent some time on Disco this weekend and I have to report that Marius suggestion was not the source of the oil leak. It looks like something more serious.
If you view the pump from the bottom, there are a little hole hehind the pully assembly and the oil is seeping from that hole. I filled the resevoir and oil started to seep from the hole with normal gravitation. (Without the engine running). Any suggestions on the cause and does it mean the replacement of the pump. It seems as if the front of the Disco (radiator, fan etc needs to be removed to get to the pump.
Some good news will be appreciated.
Regards
Johan
