Power Stearing

Postby driesdej » 11 May 2016 09:20

My power steering on my 110 200Tdi is acting irratically
Meaning it feels as if it works, doesn't work, works, doesn't work, and so on
It happens from time to time and is not always felt
The belt tension is good and there is enough fluid in the resevoir tank.
Could it be pump or steering box - i'm thinking pump?
Thanks for all the help in the past

Hi Dries
Have you checked the bleed screw on top of the steering box to look if the pump have pressure. When engine is idling just loosen it abit, it might spray and watch out for the belts and fan

Hi Dries,
Maybe let out some more bubbles....

Now seriously, Lift the front wheels off the ground. Open bleed screw a tad then start the car. Start turning the steering left and right with small turns going wider and wider, checking and correcting the fluid level. This should help the air lock to come out. You want no bubbles from lock to lock.

Regards
Theo.
