Hi Chaps
I got one a couple of years back at 4x4 mega? at Kayalami in JoBurg. Cost R500 I think. Its quite a flimsy thing, but the point is its completly concealed so works well.
You can easily make one: Remove the center consol. Remove the plate underneath the center cosol [exposing the top of the gearbox]. The safe drops down into this recess, about 4cm. It then widens out to seal the gap left by the missing plate to a size that matches the size of the consol. This is then bolted in place using the existing bolt holes in the cowling. The consol box is then bolted onto the safe lid. The lock is accessed by a slot made in the mug holder. To open the safe the whole consol is tipped backwards. Mine is about a total of 10cm deep which actually raises the consol to a nice elbow resting height. Beware; a fully steel consol will heat up from the gearbox and cook everything in the cab... at least in my TD5 it will anyway. Anything left in the safe on a longish journey does get nicley roasted.
Cheers, Matt

Hi Guys,

Take a look at this web site. This is the company that I was trying to remember. http://www.mobilestoragesystems.fsnet.co.uk . With regards to the heat from the gearbox, the units come with a heat-resistant shield for that reason.Posted the info on LRO magazine, and some bright spark came up with the name for me. Will buy one when I am there 9th march to 20th and fill you all in on the quality.
