Re: [UBO] - unidentified broken object

I guess there are a few lessons we can all learn from the unfortunate experience of yours: Firstly , even the a...holes who took the Defender are aware that the EGR should go! Secondly , how valuable a forum for exchanging views and ideas is - it would be a horrible waste of cash to replace the EGR ...

Re: EGR VALVE

I dont think you will get a definitive answer on this question , but here is my take on it. (by the way I have had the EGR removed on my TD5 and believe it was the right thing to do) Fact : The EGR system was not designed to protect the engine by letting it run cooler Fact: It was introduced in orde...

Re: Little Black Box

Thanks for the info. Yes I was surprised that there was no fail safe warning of a broken connectio.... all the more reason to see a visual display of temp on a gauge. Being Cape Town based I will have to wait for a vsit to Jhb to get the new monitoring system installed - it sounds good. I am not at ...

Little Black Box

I have had a LBB installed on my Disco TD5 for about a year and would urge all other owners to do the same or equivalent. A word of warning , however : I have the brass plug temp sensor installed in the head. While doing a general check recently I discovered that the wire connection to the brass plu...

Re: Land Rover Discovery TDI 300

Hi There I have owned a Disco TDi (1997) and at present drive a Disco TD5. I have no doubt that the Disco's represent the best value in the used 4x4 market - you get a clean , capable vehicle for a good price. Why a good price ? Cos of the reputation for reliability issues, in many respects valid. H...

Re: Tuning a Td5?

A long shot suggestion for George to improve his fuel consumption. Is your MAF sensor properly connected and in good shape? I once accidently left mine unplugged. The car runs fine - feels fine- but I have no doubt that the consumption will be poor as the ECU automatically defaults to a safe average...

Re: Tuning a Td5?

My gut feel is that a remap of the ECU is a better bet than an add on chip ?
I also understand that early ECU 's like my 2000 TD5 cannot be remapped ?

Any comments ?

Re: Has anyone installed a rear diff lock for a Disco?

Hi Jim A comment on Tru Trac and Traction Control. We know from logic and experience that traction control and diff locks work well together - in fact each diff that is locked simplifies the control logic for the remaining traction control functions. I understand that tru trac is effectively a limit...

Re: Def td5 starting issue

Any further developments on the starting problem ? A possible cause could be oil in the in ecu , via the wiring harness . Worth checking.

Re: Has anyone installed a rear diff lock for a Disco?

A follow up on my first reply: I have assumed that you already have a central diff lock ? Either a more recent Disco or a modified early one ? Wthout the central diff locked you will get little benefit from locking the rear. However with a central lock and a rear lock the Disco 2 comes into its own ...
