Re: Td5 Airconditioning Improvements

Just thought of another angle ... I am open to correction , but I think that the TD5 has a protective algorithm in its ECU that will reduce air conditioner output if the engine coolant ever overheats. The system remembers this protection and needs to be cleared with Testbook or equivalent before it ...

Re: Td5 Airconditioning Improvements

First thing to do is check whether it needs a re gas - take it in to a ac specialist. I have recently bought a ten year old Hardtop Tdi and the airconditioning is strong. Yours should also be good.

Re: turbo lag td5

Hi George I think some of the exhaust fundis are preoccupied with the importance of "tuned"exhausts and back pressure and harmonic pulses , whatever. All applies to conventionally aspirated vehicles. A lot of guys believe ( it sounds right to me) that the turbo actually isolates the rest o...

Re: turbo lag td5

Hi George
General concensus seems to be that the main box should simply be removed and replaced with a nice bit of straight pipe. Little increase in noise and noticeable improvement in power.
I am tempted but am a little bit nervous to commit .

Keep us informed ...

Re: Antifreeze

Thanks for the responses
Jim
Where can i get hold of a Sykes - Pickavent tester? Have been searching locally for an appropriate range hydrometer - all I can find are battery acid testers which are for a higher SG.

Re: Antifreeze

Hi 110 Thanks for the response. I am paranoic about antifreeze - and I think other owners should be sensitised more. Bad coolant mixtures are like a cancer eating away at the engine. Today I extracted 500 ml of coolant from the Defender ( added at a 50% ratio one month ago) and tested the boiling po...

Re: turbo lag td5

Hi Imtiaz First thing you do is define and understand what you mean by turbo lag. The lack of power and hesitation at low speeds (eg below 1800rpm os strictly speaking not turbo lag. It is simply lack of power. It can be addressed ( I believe ) by increasing the fueling (could be termed overfuelling...

Re: Hill Starts With an Auto Box

Hi Blyne
The hill restarts also used to give me the shivers. No problem once you are used to it !
Find a simple safe slope and practice - eg a parking area ramp .

Once you have done it a few times the fear goes !

Antifreeze

The workshop that recently serviced my Defender Tdi has flushed the radiator and made up a new coolant mixture using a product called "Everon" antifreeze. I am concerned that I might have a load of rubbish masquerading as antifreeze. My concerns are due to the following: It is not SABS app...
