Re: Discovery Found!!

Sorry to hear about your battle scars! In stead of an expensive steel bumper, you can modify the standard front bumper by taking of the plastic "skirt" under the bumper. Carefully cut off the plastic end pieces and bolt them back on the bumper for a neat, yet aggressive look that will incr...

Re: Ai-Ais to Rosh Pinah

Rosh Pinah to Aus is a tarred road. The road along the river from Noordoewer to Rosh Pinah was washed away during the floods, but could be open. From Ai-Ais doing this road is a helluva detour. Rather go north from Ai-Ais to Seeheim and take the B4 to Aus. When going to Sesriem, it is worthwhile to ...

Re: Shocks and brakes

I changed from the standard ones to OME's. Made a hugely improved difference in handling, also much better when the car is loaded. Will definitely go this way again. I am using standard coils with helper springs in the rear.

Re: D2 Td5 wastegate solenoid bypass

Here's a question for you..... my wastegate actuator seems very stiff, like I couldn't move it giving it quite a firm tug. Is that how it's meant to be? Could it be jammed and maybe either not giving enough boost, or too much? It should be very stiff and I couldn't move mine either, but here's a go...

Re: D2 Td5 wastegate solenoid bypass

How did I configure mine? My waste gate pipe is connected directly to the air intake and after testing with a boost gauge, it all works as it should. Are you sure about this? The pipe from the wastegate actuator (the vacuum thingy) on top of the turbo, should go to the steel pipe going to the inter...

I agree with naks, when leaving the tar, drop tyre pressure, and engage CDL.

Me too. On my D1 it handled MUCH better on gravel with CDL on. On the D2 I engage it anyway, but the TC also helps a lot and actually works less with CDL engaged.

Re: D2 Td5 wastegate solenoid bypass

Ok, thanks very much for the heads-up, but the obvious question is why did LR go to the trouble and expense of fitting this gadget if it isn't really needed? Maybe with the EGR story and tighter emissions control there was some connection, but anyway, so long as the risk of overboosting is not pres...

Re: D2 Td5 wastegate solenoid bypass

Help me here please..... I cannot for the life of me see any positive benefit with doing this modification? Surely the risk of "over-cooking" the engine by overboosting it, and even maybe over-revving the turbo itself, would be reason enough to avoid this mod like the plague. What am I mi...
