Re: Td5 chip setting

I have some good TD5 maps that anyone can have for free. They are quite small so can be emailed.

Re: buying a 2nd hand discovery td5

Make sure the ABS is working properly. A new ABS pump will set you back about 30k or more.

Re: Disco II Air Suspension issues

The best and certainly the cheapest fix is to throw the bags away and fit normal disco springs instead. You can use the airbag compressor to pump your tyres. CCA sell the springs.

Re: Revs

My 300tdi SW used to overheat when the headlights were switched on! The cause is a bad earth between the engine and the bulkhead - I added a braided earth cable and the problem was fixed. This is a common fault with Defenders.

Re: Defender Hi-Line

Two very important modifications to the UK spec. 1) underfloor insulation so that gearbox heat doesn't get to the cabin. Also much quieter than std Defender. 2) GALVANIZED CHASSIS !!! Unimportant change was a rev-counter in the Tdi. Actually it always read incorrectly because the alternator pulley w...

Re: oil leaks and engine pressure

When you change the cam belt on the 300tdi you should check for any oil in the housing. If there is, you have to remove the crank pinion (can be difficult if you don't have or make a special tool) remove the oil seal and o-ring and change them. The oil seal can be pushed in squarely using an old cra...

Re: Defender Brake Squeal!!!

Do NOT grind the discs on a Defender. If you read the manual there is not much of a difference between the size of new discs and the minimum allowed. Any grinding will take the discs out of tolerance. IIRC (without looking it up) the front ventilated discs are 24mm new and 22mm scrap. Same relative ...
